The incident took place at Bommakuttai Medu near Maskallipatti on the National Highway when the Collector was proceeding for a Teachers’ Day function at a women’s college. The Collector’s driver overtook Rajiv’s bike to avoid an accident and stopped the vehicle in front of the two-wheeler. On getting down, the Collector found that Rajiv was in an inebriated condition and advised him to ride safely. He also asked Rajiv had a driving licence. As he did not have one, the Collector informed the road transport inspector over mobile phone. At this juncture Rajiv pulled out a hundred rupee note and gave it to the Collector and pleaded that he should be allowed to go. Angered by this, the Collector ordered the bike to be seized and appropriate action be taken.
