Kiran Reddy promises one lakh Government jobs

HYDERABAD: The state government would provide one lakh government jobs to the youth in various departments, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy announced on Monday.

The recruitment process was being made stringent and foolproof to ensure that only meritorious and eligible candidates were selected for these jobs without giving scope for irregularities, he added.

Delivering the Independence Day address after hoisting the national flag at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad on Monday, Reddy said 15 lakh jobs would be created for youth in different industries and sectors in the next three years under the Rajiv Education and Employment Mission which will be launched shortly. He also assured that his government would take all possible steps to provide corruption-free and transparent governance.

In an obvious reference to the ongoing movement for separate statehood to Telangana, the chief minister said the government was making efforts to remove regional imbalances.

“The government is taking all measures to maintain law and order, peace and security in the state,” he added. With regard to the government employees, he said that they were part of the government and their welfare was part of the government’s responsibilities.

Kiran Kumar Reddy listed out various welfare schemes being implemented by the government. He claimed that his government was committed to the welfare of farmers and would continue to provide free power, input subsidy and loan eligibility cards to tenant farmers. Claiming that  the Rachabanda programme conducted during January-February benefited about one crore people, he promised to extend the benefits of government welfare schemes to another 35 lakh in the second phase of Rachabanda.

The chief minister announced that his government was aiming to complete 35 of 86 irrigation projects in the next three years and bring 36 lakh acres of land under cultivation. A finance corporation with a corpus fund of Rs 1,000 crore will be set up for women’s self-help groups to protect them from exploitation by micro-finance companies.

As part of urban development programmes, the Rs 12,500 crore Hyderabad Metro Rail project will be launched soon. Another Rs 2,000 crore will be spent to develop the Old City of Hyderabad.

Earlier, the chief minister reviewed the colourful parade by the contingents of police, scouts and guides, NCC, National Green Corps and school children, which was followed by a cultural programme, Bharatiyam, by students.

While the tableau of the housing department won the first prize, the tableaux of the forest and culture departments won the second and third prizes respectively.
