Batcha's death was murder, not suicide: CBI

Last Updated : 01 Jul 2011 01:57:51 PM IST

NEW DELHI: A top CBI official has disclosed that, prima facie, the death of Sadhick Batcha, a close associate of jailed former Telecom Minister A Raja, appears to be a case of murder not suicide as the local Chennai police had claimed. The agency's assumptions are based on the close scrutiny of the 'scene of crime' and other circumstantial evidence collected during investigation.

The CBI took over the investigation from the Tamil Nadu police on April 5.

Chennai-based CBI officials recently visited the scene of crime and closely examined it to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to his death.

Now the agency officials are keenly awaiting the report on the viscera (internal organs) and other chemical analysis to establish their preliminary assumption, especially as the CBI's findings are completely different from the Chennai forensic surgeon Dr V Dekal's postmortem report, which said Batcha had committed suicide and the cause of death was asphyxia.

The body of Batcha, a real estate dealer, was found hanging at his Chennai residence on March 17. Since the CBI had questioned him on four occasions on issues relating to the 2G scam case-especially pertaining to investments made by Raja-before his sudden death, it had caused a huge uproar.

At the time, the Tamil Nadu government was headed by DMK chief M Karunanidhi. Due to the controversy surrounding Batcha's death and his key financial links with Raja, the Supreme Court monitoring the 2G scam case had directed the CBI to take up the probe into his death.

Batcha was a key cog in the 2G scam case and the agency had questioned him four times to find the money trail of Raja's income generated from his alleged wheelingdealings. Batcha's house and offices were also raided. He was also speculated to be turning into the agency's key witness in the case.

Only now i started believe there is justice still survive in our country. That too because of the involvement of supreme court. The DMK government have lathicharged the judges in the high court. The whole world witnessed it. I hope it is time for them to reap what they have shown. They looted the state, now the nation, next if we allow, they will loot the whole world. I dont know why BJP is so concerned about Kanimozhi and the those looters.

Whoever has done this, they should know its the turn of law.Espescially amma is not going to sit quietly in things to settle. That too with Karuna group is fully involved. She will leave no stones unturned in bringing them to justice.Karuna and whole family, group of looters should be sent to jail. They are day light robbers. But i have certain doubt with the congress govt.I think the PM and others might not be that dumb when one of his minister is guzzling thousands of crores from contractors? Is it not suspicious? They say Raja is small fish. Its the big fish(congress) which might escape. No surprise karuna is lamenting for having ties with sonia and Co.

And Jaswant Singh wants bail for the parliamentarians. Mr. Singh in the independent India the politicians never enabled any investigation to its logical end. Look at Bafors-BJP only towed Congress line - predictably dishonest to those who voted them to power. Please understand - this custody of those who matter is to ensure a fair probe and documentation to enable a proper legal proceeding. If you are afraid that this will become a precedent - well it should. It is time senior leaders like you should think of what the law should say instead of hiding behind these scriptures which suffer an ancient age.

Kudos to the cbi for bringing out the truth thereby unmasking the biased approach of the city police. It was the supreme court which directed the cbi to take up the probe that needs to be congratulated first. Finding the money trail of a.raja is frought with dangers as he himself was a front for some very powerful people . Only the cbi has the ability and courage to bring to justice the likes of a.raja, his political and business associates and the people of this country expect it to take this case to its logical and truthful end. Batcha who was about to turn into the agency's key witness, was killed and his death was made to appear as suicide. Congrats cbi we are waiting with bated breath for the truth to unfold.
