HYDERABAD: National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on Thursday said the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has given the nod for its 2,400 mw (3X800 mw) stage-I Kudgi super thermal power plant. Kudgi is NTPC’s first plant to be set up in Karnataka. Upon completion, the plant will have a total installed capacity of 4,000 mw in two phases. While the first phase involves setting up 2,400 mw generation capacity, the remaining will be set up during the second phase of expansion. The power generated from the project would be supplied to southern states including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Puducherry.

NTPC said it would soon start work at the plant site. The company also said it has sourced the 800 mw units through a bulk tendering process. The project will have super-critical boilers and the latest technology.
