Marketing MBAs are top earners

MBA students with work experience have received a hike of an average of almost 10 per cent in their salaries this year, reveals a survey done by www.iimjobs.com. While MBA-IT students with one to two years work experience got around 13 per cent, general management MBA graduates received only 6.5 per cent, according to the study conducted between May 16 and 31.In the five-seven years’ work experience category, sales and marketing MBA graduates have got the maximum — a hike of 15 per cent while the finance graduates got just a six per cent hike. The same category in the IT sector received 13 per cent.This trend can be seen in the salaries that graduates are drawing. The average salary for IT professionals is 17.3 lakh per annum, while sales and marketing and consulting MBAs got 18.1 and 18.4 per cent respectively.The survey also found out that finance MBAs suffer from maximum attrition. Finance MBAs with three-four years’ experience has an attrition rate of 13.6 per cent. This is followed by IT professionals with two-three years’ experience at 13.5 per cent. General management professionals with three-four years’ work experience, on the other hand, didn’t switch jobs much.“Interestingly, there are no studies to benchmark salaries of MBA graduates.
