MOMBASA: Ireland was 81-2 at stumps in its second innings on the first day of the ICC Intercontinental Cup game against Kenya on Sunday as both teams were bowled out cheaply at Mombasa Sports Club.

Ireland led by 47 runs after it was skittled for 75 in just 33.5 overs after choosing to bat first and Kenya slumped to 109 all out in 35.1 overs.

Left-arm spinner Hiren Varaiya took 6-22 in Ireland's first innings, while slow bowlers Albert van der Merwe (5-41) and George Dockrell (5-37) dominated Kenya's innings on a spin-friendly pitch.

Ed Joyce was 51 not out to anchor Ireland's second innings for a slim lead in a four-day match that progressed rapidly in three sessions.

Ireland leads the eight-team Intercontinental Cup standings while Kenya is fourth.
