Indian media lack distinction, says Tharoor

Last Updated : 26 Apr 2010

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the media, there should be a distinction between facts, speculations and opinion. But, Indian media do not have any such distinction, former Union Minister and local MP Shashi Tharoor has said.

He was inaugurating AVATAR (All-Video Audio Television Anchors and RJs) Community - an initiative to bring all the anchors of the State under a common banner - in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

‘’You are the people who set an agenda of what people should see or hear the next day. You bring up thoughts into the homes of people. So, use that responsibility. Use it well and wisely. When you see that certain standards are not met, speak up,’’ Tharoor said.

Earlier, Tharoor lit the traditional lamp marking the inauguration of the community in the presence of KTDC chairman Cheriyan Philip and anchor G S Pradeep. Around 50 anchors, including VJs and RJs attended. Cheriyan Philip also presented a memento to Shashi Tharoor on the occasion.

AVATAR Community aims to engage in social service activities apart from entertainment and in-house training.
