Case against teacher for caning student

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thampanoor Police have registered a case against a school teacher for mercilessly caning a Plus-I student. Fayaz, 16, of Government Model BHSS, Thycaud, who was taken to the hospital on Friday, has filed a complaint with the Thampanoor police.

The teacher, Sudheer, who is in charge of discipline at the school, had caned Fayaz after accusing him of knocking over a desk, the Thampanoor police said. Fayaz, who lives at Beemappally, showed the bruises on his left thigh to mediapersons.

This is Fayaz’s version of the incident; “The incident occurred around 3.15 p.m. I was outside the classroom with my friends as it was interval. Suddenly everyone rushed inside saying sir was coming. Someone in front of us knocked down a desk. Sudheer sir caught some of us, and when he asked one student ‘who was with you,’, he pointed at me. I was caned and told that if I didn’t pay fine, I would not be issued hall ticket for the exam.”

The Thampanoor police spoke with the school officials on Friday, but said they could not question Sudheer as he had not come to the school.ENS
