APTransco to set up 82 new substations

HYDERABAD: With increasing demand for quality power supply across the State, Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APtransco) is getting ready to strengthen power supply network by setting up 82 new substations at a cost of Rs 4,546 crore with special focus on hyderabad in the next five years. there are nine 400 KV, 96 220 KV and 278 132 KV substations being operated in the State as on March 31.APTransco will commission three 400 KV, 24 220 KV and another 34 132 KV substations with an investment of Rs 3,940 crore in the next four years.Another 17 220 KV substations and four 132 KV substations for lift irrigation are expected to be commissioned during the current financial year of 2010-11.Due to growth in commercial activity in hyderabad, APTransco will establish two 400 KV substations, 10 220 KV substations and six 132 KV substations with an estimated cost of Rs 1,265 crore in the next five years exclusively for City. Latest technologies like GIS substations and XLPE underground cables are being installed in the 220 KV and 132 KV systems to ensure reliable power supply in the State capital.Addressing the annual press meet here today, APTransco chairman and Managing Director Ajay Jain said that the present peak demand of Greater is about 1,500 MW. It is projected to touch 5,000 MW by 2019-20 in the hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (hMDA) area due to increasing consumption for industrial needs, he said. The city improvement programme will be taken up with financial assistance of Rs 1,265 crore from Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JiCA), Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and other financial institutions.APtransco earned Rs 864.53 crore during 2009-10 showing an improvement of Rs 61 crore against last year. It has spent about Rs 741 crore registering a profit of Rs 123.49 crore before tax. the Corporation invested Rs 833 crore for expanding and strengthening transmission network during 2009-10.The peak demand met by APTransco on a single day during the year is 10,880 million units as against 9,997 million units of peak demand met last year.
