25 members elected to AP Bar Council

HYDERABAD: Twenty five contestants have been declared elected as members of the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh. Counting of votes for the election held on December 30 last began on January 19 and concluded on the night of Feb 10.

In all, 134 candidates contested the poll and 40,392 advocates exercised their franchise in the state through preferential voting system.

Of the 25 winning candidates, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's uncle and senior advocate of Chittoor district N Dwarakanatha Reddy was the first one who got elected as the Bar council member by crossing the cutoff figure of 1,479 votes. A Narasimha Reddy (Hyderabad), present Bar council chairman, was the second to reach the cutoff figure.

The new members will now elect a chairman, vicechairman and a member to the Bar Council of India.
