CHENNAI: A vegetable supply chain in Patna is making waves with its novel ways. Knids Green Private Ltd collects vegetables from farmers in rural areas, process it and then hand over it for selling to the small vendors; a few of them were even provided with AC-fitted cars for selling the vegetables.

The Knids Green started in 2008 and has a turn-over of `2.1 crore and is one of the awardees — Business plan competition category — at the Unconvention 2010, hosted by Villgro on Friday.

Kaushlendra, CEO of Knids Green in 2008, said his vegetable supply chain has 5000 farmers from the villages around Patna as members and 500 small scale vendors, to sell quality vegetables to the customers.

The IIM Ahmedabad graduate said 50 of the vendors were provided with AC-fitted cars to keep the vegetables fresh.

The second edition of the “Unconvention 2010” has attracted many young entrepreneurs, who are looking for the social sector entrepreneurship.

Vijay Srinivasan, director of Omnigreen Organic Bio Park Pvt Ltd, sees great potential in growing medicinal plants using organic farming. His firm forms a cluster of small farmers interested in cultivating medicinal plants and provide them with expertise on the use of bio-fertilisers.

Nearly 200 delegates were participating in the “Unconvention 2010”. The awardees included Mohammed Haque (grassroot innovator), SELCO India (Social Enterprise) and Dr Devi Shetty of Narayana Hrudayalaya (Lifetime achievement).
