Chennai Imam leads funeral prayers for Osama

Last Updated : 07 May 2011 12:59:58 PM IST

CHENNAI: Stating that Osama Bin Laden was not an orphan and was one among the 170 crore Muslims, Chief Imam of the city-based Makkah Masjid on Friday conducted a 'janazah' prayer for Osama in which about 10,000 people participated.

Speaking to reporters after the funeral prayer, Moulana Shamsudeen Qasimi, Chief Imam of Makkah Masjid, said, "Without proving to the world that Osama bin Laden was really behind the twin-towers attack, the United States has killed him by portraying him as the world's most dreaded terrorist and buried him like an orphan."

"Osama was not an orphan and he was very much part of the 170 crore Muslim population living in the world, hence we organised a 'janazah' (funeral) prayer, as was the custom with every deceased Muslim," the Moulana added.

Had Osama been proved guilty and the government asked the public to punish him in the open on Mount Road, the first bullet to be fired on Osama should have been from a Muslim only, as Islam was against terrorism, he said. "We feel that US president Barack Obama orchestrated the drama at Abbottabad to improve his diminishing popularity among US citizens, since elections in the country are fast approaching," Qasimi said.

When asked whether any permission was sought from local authorities to conduct the prayer, Qasimi said, "We never sought permission for the event as it would be held indoors. Moreover, we don't see any hurdle on that front as this very state allowed several condolence meetings for the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabakaran, who was behind the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi."

Iam shocked to hear this news as iam from chennai, hearing that 10000 people participated for osama funeral and no media covered it.As long as people dravidian parties with there divide and rule policy like british and active support for missionaries and mullahs rule TN, hindus in TN will suffer further.

we (as indian) should not allow Moulana Shamsudeen Qasimi,( Chief Imam of Makkah Masjid) to speak or pray like this. If we allow today like this, tomorrow they will Syed Ali sha Gilani. I appeal to all my indian muslim brothers don't support this kind( Moulana Shamsudeen Qasimi) people. First we should give priority to our nation.

Throw this Guy and his followers out of India. Else India with these type of guys is inviting troubles for its future citizzens. Secularity does mean to tolerate these type of things happening before us. Osama is a dreaded killer - whatever religion he belongs to , no prayers should be conduted for him. He is destined to live for ever in hell. How can TN / India Govt allow such things becuase we have also bear the brunt of Osama atrocities - Eg. Mumbai attack. Will any one take action or as usual politicans be mum becuase of vote bank attached??. How may muslimes would have dies in world tower destruction & mumbai attacj - does this idiot Imam prayed for their soul to rest in peace. Atleast that would have made sense.

"It is prayed that people like Qasimi should also expect to get a watery grave like Osama did for misleading the public on religious facts. Death of Bin Laden showed us death of culture of hate. Bin Laden's death will give birth to culture of hope." Mohamed

Tamils are the cheapest on the planet. christian missionaries and muslim mullahs can purchase them for as little as a chicken biriyani. Taimisils were once upon a time the Aryans of India. But they now lack self respect, has become corrupt and will work for any stone age religion like christianity of Islam is money is rightl. They are now truely represented by a deranged family of Karunanidhi who has some six known wives.

These Qasimi and his followers are all trouble makers to India.Either send them to Pak. by free flight & dump them or throw them in the Bay of Bengal ( ensure it is far away from Chennai shore). Where ever these groups are there, that region is in trouble. They tend to engage in fighting among themselves or else with some neighbours. It is their culture since beginning. One advise to Qasimi now that Osama has left his children/wives in Pak and he can go to Pak to take care of them as well to preach there that Islam is against terrorism. Another advise to Qasimi is try to use Friday sermon for cultivating good habits among your folks and not to spoil them.

The govt. should take action if he preaches hatered.Suicide, suicidal attacks, killing innocent people are against the teachings of Islam. Nobody can take law in their own hands in a democratic society. The committee members should take the opinion of Kazi and other scholars and remove the imam from the mosque.

Let me quote from a columnist in Pakistan's DAWN daily: When some of the `good` zealots organise prayers for the `bad` killed in action and eulogise them, won`t the competence (if not the intentions, even sanity) of their patrons be questioned? Mr. Qasimi's patrons (possibly in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States?) will no doubt be pleased with his measured invective but Mr. Qasimi is commiting a serious error in claiming that late Osama Bin Laden's crimes have not been proved in a court. They never will be, for his crimes were truly international. Incidentally, will Mr. Qasimi lead the funeral prayers for several hundreds of Muslims killed without proof of crimes in Syria, Egypt and Libya in the last few months?

It is amazing that this gentleman (the Imam) says that there is no evidence of the involvement of OBL in the twin towers attack when their own websites and video/audio dispatches have confirmed that they did this. We can go on finding out spacious arguments to support these kind of people. It is interesting also to note that as far as I know, none of the other newspapers (neither English nor Tamil) have covered this event. Perhaps it would have been better to have ignored these bigots than give them publicity.

Such religious fanatics should be thrown out of the country. It is the silence of the majority community that is leading to such minority fundamentalism which is actively promoted by Dravidian parties and Congress. Time for Hindus to wake up.

Osama Bin Laden is a brutal ;cruel killer of innocent human beings. The unequal GOD ALLAH never preached these to practice. Making a prayer for him is not encouraging.

The most well known saying is "Prevention is better than Cure". Nowadays even children know this. So it is time Indian Government work towards prevention of hatred incitating speeches. That too religious hatred, which is the root cause for most of our problems. While it is agreed that Osama was not properly tried for the twin towers disaster, there is sufficient proof that he was funding and the head of a terrorist group. He himself has come in his own created videos with AK47's by his side, preaching terrorism and taking credit for many "minor" killings and bombings. Osama has been eliminated as a terrorist essentially - unlike our government which is still pampering proven killers like Kasab and Afzal Guru - spending crores of public tax money for their luxurious maintenance. It is also essential that a "citizen" of India works for Indian and not against. Qasimi can be hauled up to court and in a detailed and public cross examination, his real intentions towards unity and sa

Anna Hazare was targeted and tarnished by so called secularists, when he praised Modi for his developmental works. What are they doing now? Where are those spineless Pseudo secularists? Is there anybody in the government who is truly patriot to hang these terrorists supporters. If there 10000 muslims in one part of Chennai to support terrorists then how many of them will be there in whole india? shame, shame really shame.

I am regularly watching Qasimi's programs in Tamilan TV. He preach hatred against the west. Yesterday he told; Osama created terror in the minds of US,as prescribed in Quran. If these elements are allowed to go on,I am sure, they are inviting trouble. His speech is going to spoil the minds of young muslims in TN. Are they provoking 'majorities? Do they want one more Kashmir?
