Wives beware,husbands ready to raise their voice

“If you want to sacrifice the admiration of many women for the criticism of one, go ahead, get married,” reads the quote by Louis K Anspacher on the website of Save Indian Family Foundation. This quote is no joke, says Anil Kumar, a member of Save Indian Family Foundation, a national NGO headquartered in Bangalore that works towards creating awareness about the legal terrorism in the name of women empowerment. The foundation will hold a dharna on May 7 from 10 am to 1.30 pm outside the Town Hall to voice their concerns about terror imposed on husbands by wives. He says that the discrimination against men by government and court system has gone beyond tolerable limits, not just in Bangalore but across the country. “The mindset of the government and the judiciary has not changed. Men are on the receiving end,” says Anil, a software engineer by profession. He says the primary concern that they will be raising at the dharna is that of the need of amending Section 498a of the Indian Penal Code. Section 498a deals with the punishments for the husband or relatives of the husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty. Anil points out that in the accused here are guilty until proven innocent. “We don’t want men and their families to be arrested without any evidence,” he says. “What we are asking for is making it a bailable, non cognisable offense. Also people who file false cases should be punished,” he adds. Save Indian Family Foundation meets every Sunday for three hours at Cubbon Park. This is where all the abused men come together and open up their hearts. They don’t recommend divorce. But they tell the men to be mentally armoured to fight the legal battles that last for five years at least.
