Consumer rights awareness programmes for SHGs

BNAGALORE: Minister for Energy, Food and Civil Supplies Shobha Karandlaje on Tuesday said that programmes are being planned to create awareness on Consumer Rights Act among the Stree Shakthi Self-Help Groups (SHGs).Speaking after inaugurating a programme organised to mark the World Consumers Rights Day by Food and Civil Supplies and Weights and Measurement Department at Shikshakara Sadana, Karandlaje said that the need of the hour is to create awareness on Consumer Rights Act among women as they buy essential commodities and consumer goods more.Consumer clubs in schools"We have set up consumers clubs at 1,150 schools to create awareness on Consumer Rights Act. We plan to set up 2,500 more such clubs in schools across the state," she said.The minister cautioned the consumers to check the expiry date apart from looking for ISI mark before buying goods. "One need not to hesitate to complain to the Consumers' Forum if they found any defective consumer goods," she advised.
