An initiative to promote Ayurveda globally

BANGALORE: A study aimed at conserving, protecting and promoting Ayurveda globally will be conducted by the St John's Hospital based National Referral Centre for Lead Poisoning in India (NRCLPI) with Bangalore based Government Ayurvedic College and Sri Kalabhyraveshwara Ayurvedic Medical College in collaborating with the Boston University School of Medicine, Boston. "We held talks with the heads of colleges and inspected the college on Tuesday and received a positive response."Once the funding part is finalised, in a couple of months we will begin with the study. As of now we are on with the preliminary studies," said Dr Thupill Venkatesh, Principal Investigator, NRCLPI. On his visit to the city for an interaction with the NRCLPI and the college heads, Dr Robert B Saper, Director of Integrative Medicine and Associate Professor Boston University School of Medicine, Boston said, "A holistic approach to ayurveda was used for challenging cases, especially related to stress, diabetes and arthritis."Dr Robert told Express, "Besides the positive impact, the ayurvedic form of medication, particularly rasashastra, had negative implications as well. The lead, mercury, arsenic and copper contents in such medicines has a negative impact and to know the exact content requirement to avoid any negative implications requires expertise.""It is at this juncture, a joint collaboration of ayurvedic experts, doctors, scientists and patients will work to carry evidencebased study and further for its conservation, protection and promotion," he said.feedback@expressbuzz.com
